Save the Children Hosts Cash Working Group Meeting

Tuesday 6 August 2019

On July 30, 2019, the Ethiopia Cash Working Group comprising UN Agencies and International NGOs held its monthly meeting at Save the Children Country Office.  Save the Children is a leading agency, steering member and co-chair for the Group since January 2019.

The main objective of the Cash Working Group is to harmonize and promote the use of more appropriate and efficient cash based intervention through coordination, information sharing and dissemination. The working group will establish standards and common approaches to ensure effective and complementary approaches. It will also work towards improving the linkages with the PSNP, using multi-purpose cash and cash preparedness activities through advocacy, lobbying to influence key stakeholders and policy makers.

There is, generally, a growing recognition of Cash Transfers Programming (CTP) across the global humanitarian sector that can support people affected by natural and man-made disasters in ways that maintain human dignity, provide access to food/cash and shelter and help rebuild or protect livelihoods.  Therefore, Save the Children’s active role in the Group will help to scale up the organization’s existing approach and cash work initiatives; learn from and partner with the wider cash actors; improve knowledge management of CTP and adopt and or adapt to new developments in CTP. The Group is instrumental to strengthen the linkage among implementing partners for effective and efficient implementation of cash assistance. As the Group’s co-chair, Save the Children will advocate for children to be brought into focus in cash initiatives and ensure visibility of activities carried out by the Cash Working Group.
