Our emergency food distribution work is reaching 383,000 people every month

Monday 3 October 2016

Every month since November 2015, Save the Children is reaching 383,000 people affected by the drought with its food aid. Among these, 35,088 people are from female-headed households.

The emergency food assistance we are delivering in Meket, Gubalafto and Habru Woredas, North Wollo Zone of the Amhara region has now reached 42,246 Metric Tons and includes wheat grain, yellow split peas and vegetable oil.

The distribution has been underway since the re-categorization of the drought to Category 1 in November 2015. The continued emergency food aid is part of the Joint Emergency Operations Programme/ JEOP/, a USAID funded programme implemented by a consortium of NGOs and led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS). It aims to address the challenges of acute and transitory food-insecure households. Click here to learn more about our drought response.
