NIGIST’S STORY: Financially independent and ready to take on the world

Nigist Haile, 20, is one of the girls targeted by POTENTIAL from Simret Kebele, Endamehoni Woreda of Tigray region. She has completed grade 10, but remained at home because she had no other opportunities.

Nigist currently works as pre-primary school teacher. She says, “I got this job because I took the trainings provided by POTENTIAL project. It gave me a competitive advantage” In addition to this job, Nigist also works as a part time tutor in her spare time. She added, this is the result of the time management skill she acquired from the same trainings.

Nigist currently makes 700 Birr from both jobs in a month. She says, “Having this income is great for someone who used to depend on others even for basic needs of a woman.” She knows that her employment is at the beginning stage and wants to advance her carrier. She saves 100 birr a month and is committed to take advantage of every opportunity that comes her way to make her life better.
