John Graham Inaugurates Honche Bite Primary School

Wednesday 2 July 2014

John Graham, Country Director for Save the Children, inaugurated new additional classrooms in Honche Bite Primary School built by Save the Children. The construction was made to upgrade the school from first (1-4 grades) to second cycle (5-8 grades) primary and address the challenges that resulted from overcrowded classrooms.
The school, which was initially built by Save the Children in 2006, had two blocks with four classrooms, a resource center, playground, potable water supply as well as separate latrines for boys and girls.

However, the school, which started operation with 152 children, has now 308 students (167 boys and 141 girls). As a result, Save the Children built another block with four classrooms through sponsorship funds. Grade five was opened in the 2013-14 academic year. The school will play an important role in helping girls avoid early marriage, as they have the opportunity to stay at school until they reach Grade 8.
He also visited sponsorship funded School Health and Nutrition (SHN) and Adolescent Development programs and gardening demonstration site established by Empowering New Generations to Improve Nutrition and Economic opportunities (ENGINE) program in the school. John Graham also held discussions with parents and community representatives in the school.
