Creating employment while conserving the environment

In 2016, the youth of Tsibet Kebele, Endemehoni Woreda in Tigray region established “Lemlem Afaje Environmental Association.” The association has 13 members, of whom nine are women. Having completed their grade 10 education, all members were unemployed and lived with their families. None of them had a chance to pursue higher education or start their own business.

“It was like being born again”: Halefom’s transformation through the POTENTIAL Project

Halefom Berhe, 23, is a charming young man from Tsibet Kebele, Endamehoni Woreda of Tigray Region. He completed grade 10 four years ago but remained jobless until he was targeted for POTENTIAL project. Following this, he received ‘Positive Youth Development’, ‘Work ready Now!’ and ‘Be Your Own Boss’ trainings from the project.

FSL Team Visit for Retrospective Study on Save the Children-Supported IGGs

A team from Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) sector recently travelled to selected woredas in Somali and Dire-Dawa namely Jijiga, Harshin, Awbare, Babile, Shinile, Afdem, Mieso and Hadigala, an area where Save the Children and its partners implemented projects that help vulnerable community members to build up businesses and generate income to improve their livelihoods. The income generating groups (IGGs) visited were supported by Save the Children between 2009 and 2011 through several donors funded projects, including USAID, EU and ECHO.
